The Pescado Island is named after the inhabitants of the area, indigenous people of Aymara ethnicity, due to its semi-ellipsoidal profile when viewed from the east or west, which when reflected in the salt when it is flooded, usually in January and February, forms the approximate silhouette of a fish. For the time being, there is no infrastructure on Pescado Island to welcome tourists, which contributes to the tranquility of the viscachas and cacti and makes the few visitors leave without leaving any economic benefit to the local economy.
