Sol de Mañana

Sol de Mañana is a desert area of roughly 2 km², located in southern Bolivia, in the department of Potosí, south of Laguna Colorada on the road toward the Salar de Chalviri, at an altitude of 4,850 m.a.s.l., within the Eduardo Abaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve.

This area is marked by intense volcanic activity (including fumaroles and geysers); in the craters spread across the region you can see mud boiling intensely. The fumaroles and geysers also release mixed jets of water and hot steam that reach heights of 10 to 50 metres, driven by the pressure behind them. Together, these phenomena create a landscape that feels like a return to the days when the Earth was still taking shape.
